Nissan Juke – The Long Review

THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

When it comes to buying a new car, generally speaking, Nissan is one of those brands that we often praise for durability and reliability. However, even with Nissan’s generally high reputation, there’s never any guarantee that a new model will continue to offer excellent performance. And with this in mind, considering long-term performance can be an excellent way to decide whether a model might be ideal for your needs. Luckily, we’ve been testing out the Nissan Juke for around three years now, in line with the model’s three-year and unlimited mileage warranty, so we can give you a little more insight into how the Nissan Juke seems to perform from a long-term perspective.

KEY FEATURES OF THE NISSAN JUKE

Before we go any further, we should start by considering some of the key features of the Nissan Juke, offering a baseline for comparison against the manufacturer’s claims. The Nissan Juke is estimated to offer a combined fuel economy in the region of 45-48 mpg.  Depending on the exact model chosen, the Juke also offers several excellent additional features – these include Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connections, a full-colour TFT screen combimetre, lane departure warnings, cruise control, speed limiters, traffic sign recognition, touchscreen entertainment system, rearview cameras, start push-buttons, electric hand brakes, and more. All this sounds very impressive on paper. Still, but the real performance of a vehicle can only be measured when it’s out on the road. With this in mind, we’ve done our best to test out the Nissan Juke to see just how well it stacks up in a real-world situation.

HOW DOES THE NISSAN JUKE PERFORM?

So, we’ve now considered some of the key features of the Nissan Juke. But the question still stands – how does it perform in real life? Well, based on three years of use, we’ve come up with a good insight into the Juke’s performance overall.

MILEAGE AND ECONOMY

First of all, let’s consider the mileage and fuel economy of the Nissan Juke. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get out and about very much with this excellent vehicle due to the Covid lockdowns, meaning the vehicle only racked up a total mileage of around 7,500 miles – many of which were inner-city driving. However, the vehicle did appear to deliver on its early claims of around 45mpg, with our mpg averaging at 44.1 – not bad by anyone’s standards.

STORAGE

One area that we really have to praise the Nissan Juke is its storage space. Whether you’re planning on taking the pets with you on a trip or simply getting the week’s shopping, ample storage space is always important – and the Juke doesn’t let us down here. Perhaps the only issue we found was the height of the boot, which made heavier items a little awkward to lift in – however, the boot’s spaciousness made it ideal for most uses. Plus, we noticed a few little touches that helped amplify the storage further, such as the ability to slot seat belts out of the way when lifting or lowering seats. It’s a simple change that really should have been implemented before – these are the things you often don’t notice you need until you have them at your disposal.

COMFORT

The Nissan Juke is designed to be an allrounder – but, unfortunately, this is one area where we discovered it was lacking a tiny bit. While the Juke seemed perfectly at home on smooth roads and on motorways, the suspension was a little harsh and did show signs of age throughout our ownership – we started to feel potholes and road imperfection. But, while we noted it, it didn’t hurt our experience too much overall.

FAULTS AND DIFFICULTIES

Nissan’s history isn’t completely pristine, and many of its past models have had faults – the airbag fault in older models of Nissan Navaras is a prime example of this. Fortunately though, our experience with the Nissan Juke has been substantially less troublesome, and other than the mentioned suspension issue, we’ve not noticed any particular faults or difficulties with the Juke that needed repair. As such, it seems to be a solidly built vehicle that’s more than capable of outliving its warranty, which make it ideal if you’re looking to buy a used one.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, we’re incredibly impressed with the Nissan Juke’s long-term performance. Of course, it may not be the ideal option for every driver, but this should be on your shortlist if you’re looking for a reliable and stylish looking car. The Juke seems to be more than suitable for a wide array of different uses, making it a popular and versatile vehicle that’s excellent in many different ways.
